What are the Maximum number of columns per Select/Insert Statement in SQL Server

The Maximum Number of Columns per SELECT statement is 4096.
The Maximum Number of Columns per INSERT statement is 4096.

Now if you want to test the maximum number of columns limitation for select statement you can use the below test script.

When the script tries to create 4097th column you get the below error:
Msg 1056, Level 15, State 1, Line 1
The number of elements in the select list exceeds the maximum allowed number of 4096 elements.
